The Newport Adult Learning Centers offer a variety of services to area families. Our Centers are located in Newport, Alexandria and Dayton, Kentucky. The programs are free and have daytime and evening hours. Students (ages 16 and older) come in when they have time and stay as long as they can.
GED Program—This is an individualized study program to prepare for and to pass the GED test. There is computerized study, video tutoring and textbooks available for study. We also give the official GED Pre-test and certify test readiness which is necessary to take the GED test in Kentucky. We have hundreds of graduates every year!
GED Testing—The actual GED test is given in our building three to four times each month. Testing is done by appointment and appointments are made through the Learning Center once a student is shown to be test-ready.
Brush-up Program—This program is for individuals who have a high school credential or equivalent but need to raise their reading, math, or writing skill level. This is an individualized program based on the student’s needs. These students are usually interested in preparing for an employment test, job advancement, or enrollment in college or technical school programs.
Computer Skills—Our Centers have self-study materials for learning Microsoft Word, Access, Powerpoint and Excel. In addition, we have Mavis Beacon Touch-Typing program for improving keyboarding skills. Students have access to resume writing software and introduction to the Internet programs.
Family Literacy--Our Family Literacy program is based in our Dayton Center but services are provided to all locations. Currently we have Baby and Me classes for parents with children birth to 36 months, Parenting Classes and ongoing Family Literacy Events.
